myriad of the mundane

a preacher from the East expects me to know the least

hey all, sorry about not posting for a while. i've been busy working, working on the bike, visiting sara at school and getting outside.
i went on a trip into the mountains with the intention of climbing a number of peaks. so i set off with a fully loaded 50+ lb. pack to points unknown. got snowed on all day and night- about a foot and a half to be exact- and came back down without bagging a single peak. i still had a great time with my co-workers, though, and had some great, quiet time in the pristine outdoors that i'm just starting to get to know here in washington. we've got three ski areas open here now! it's the earliest that they've opened ever!! guess that my little snowball of prayer on my vest at work is working. i'm happy.
i'm working on making a carrying box for my bike that is appropriately quirky. i've got two wine crates that i'm modifying to fit together like a clam shell. i've got some fancy latches and a locking mechanism for the other side. it's going to look stupendous. i'll post pictures. i'll also find pictures of the trip...that link is to a site of one of the guys i went with. just click on the last link for vesper peak- it's number 12. i'm the front one in the fifth picture. it was great!
let me know how you all have been, too.
that is all.

  • So what are the 3 peaks that you didn't name in the post...just curious. Glad to hear that you had a super time. Nice pic in the red coat...bet you were cold!

  • that was actually some of the warmest time because we were moving. that night about 6:30 there was a cold snap. felt like a wind had brought down some colder air from the tops of the mountains. after that it warmed up again and was liveable.
we were going to climb vesper and sperry peaks. we were in the area of glacier and index peaks.

i didnt know that washington (state or whatever it is) had such beautiful country side. when us foreigners hear 'washington',all we can picture is the white house and the zillions of litres of puss that would ooze out of it if you opened the door.bah!

hey bro! did you guys hear about the 17 wragheads (muslim extremists) that got busted in Oz for making bombs n shit?
    let me know would ya!
    thats not all.

  • i hadn't heard that, man, but damn!
we were just talking about how good the beers are down there today at work. more specifically one of our guys just got back from wellington. he spent a year there in school.
and this is really some of the most beautiful mountainous areas that i've seen. i still love utah above all others, though. i'm a desert rat at heart. i'll have to post some pictures of where i've been there. it's beautiful.
and over half of the snow you see there fell on us. it dumped and a half! there were something like 50 major avalanches due to this snowstorm alone. it was intense. i've never seen so much snow.
and the white house is total puss.

  • Beautiful photos. Looks like it was an awesome weekend.

It's gonna be 43 degrees celcius here (Kimberley) today (something over 100 degrees farenheit). It literally feels like you're inside an oven.

And it's only 23 degrees (celcius) in Perth!
